Citrus Cowboys Varsity Team Wins State Championship 2021

Citrus Spring youth Football League was founded in 2015. Its first spring season with FSYFL was in 2016. It reached state level 2 years ago, losing to the opposing team. The 2020 spring season was ended abruptly due to COVIS-19.

For the spring season, the 15U D1 team, the Cowboys, had five regular season games and two Postseason games, which led to the state championship event weekend in Kissimmee, May 1-2.  The Cwoboys won the West conference game against the Dover Patriots on May 1, 21-7. This win pushed them to the overall State Championship Game last Sunday, against the Palm Beach gators.

Players that lead to the win were wide receiver Chris Henry, who caught a long pass for a touchdown and running back JoJo Velasquez who ran for a long touchdown. Quarterback, Amir Wilson, also ran for a touchdown. Delonzo Washington got a key firstdown on a run 4th and 5 to set up the score before the half.

The defensive linemen were vital in winning the championship, including Boodah Abate, Amari Francois, Randal VanValkenburg and Matthew Baird. The final score was 18-6. The State MVP was picked by FSYFL, Washington.

Thanks were given to head coach, Wade Wilcox and his assistant coach Gregory Long, as well as the "Team mom" Candace Long.

Also for the Cowboys, Runningback Quinton Robie and Quarterback Maddox Tencza were chosen as ProBowlers.
