Citrus County Fire Rescue

Fire Rescue provides public fire and life safety education to Citrus County schools, day cares, businesses, and other organizations. Our fire, life safety and fire extinguisher programs may be tailored to the specific needs of a business, group of citizens or visitors.

Pre-school through adult programs are available. Pre-school and elementary programs are encouraged and enjoyed by both our staff, teachers and children. Fun, enjoyable, and easily learned fire and life safety behaviors and survival techniques are taught in the classroom, with our Hazard House, or with our mobile Fire Safety House.

Fire Safety programs may be scheduled at the convenience of the organizing business or group. Typically, the business or group would provide the facilities to host the program. However, other arrangements are possible.

Citrus County Fire Rescue is proud to introduce our brand-new, state-of-the-art Fire Safety Trailer, replacing the original unit that served our community for more than 30 years. Built by Lion, this modern, mobile classroom provides an immersive, hands-on learning experience to help residents of all ages prepare for real emergencies.

The trailer is designed to safely simulate realistic fire and severe weather scenarios, giving participants the opportunity to practice critical safety skills in a controlled environment. It features:

Bedroom Emergency Scenario-
Feeling a heated door before opening it
Blocking smoke by sealing the bottom of the door
Listening for and recognizing a smoke alarm
Practicing safe escape through the E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home) window

Kitchen Emergency Scenario-
Simulated smoke and flames from the oven, stove, microwave, and toaster
Heat intensifying from overhead heaters
Trash can fire and smoke detector activation
Using a laser training extinguisher to put out the fire
Shutting off appliances to prevent reignition

Advanced Emergency Communications-
Interactive 911 call simulation with live instructor feedback

Storm Simulation Experience
Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes with realistic sights and sounds
Education on recognizing severe weather, understanding risks, and taking protective actions

Bringing Safety to You-
The Fire Safety Trailer travels throughout Citrus County to schools, community events, and public demonstrations—making it easy for everyone to experience the training.

Smoke Alarm Program- Keeping Citrus County Safe:
At Citrus County Fire Rescue, we believe fire prevention starts at home. Our Smoke Alarm Program is a donation-backed service designed to help protect residents by ensuring every home has working smoke alarms.

This program provides free smoke alarms, batteries, and installation for eligible Citrus County residents who:
Cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or batteries
Are physically unable to install or maintain their alarms
Our goal is to reduce the risk of fire-related injuries and deaths in owner-occupied one- and
