The Pasco Sheriff’s Office (PSO) is dedicated to serving the citizens of Pasco County. PSO has a variety of programs and personnel specifically dedicated to working with youth in our community. Our agency recognizes the challenges children and their families face sometimes go beyond the scope of a law enforcement deputy’s role.
Juvenile Choice Program:
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that our Juvenile Choice Program is now open to anyone ages 11-17. This program is geared toward mentoring youth by highlighting the real consequences of bad decisions, and encouraging kids to make strides toward a positive future. Juvenile Choice was previously only offered to children engaged in the Juvenile Arbitration or Pasco Sheriff’s Office Diversion programs. However, the knowledge and concepts the program highlights can benefit everyone!
Focusing on the power of making responsible decisions, participants gain an understanding of the repercussions that come from destructive choices and behaviors. Those in the Juvenile Choice Program learn through classroom instruction and participation in exercises. PSO members take participants on a virtual tour of Pasco County’s Corrections Center, and walk them through the booking process. They also review scenarios to teach the importance of making informed choices.
In addition to learning about the power of choice, participants discuss the challenges they see today, such as peer pressure, substance abuse and involvement in criminal activities, and how those challenges influence their paths. Through these exchanges, PSO members spread awareness that teaches decision-making, communication and conflict resolution skills. After leaving the program, participants can use these skills to make responsible choices in their daily lives.
