Come join Citrus County Parks and Recreation for an immersive Birding with Parks experience led by Florida Naturalist and Recreation Program Specialist Alice Mary Herden. You will have the opportunity to explore the unique and diverse habitats of multiple locations. Take guided nature walks to observe and learn about the fascinating array of bird species that call these areas home.
Our birding adventure will start at the Hernando Trailhead, located at 480 N Florida Ave, Hernando, FL 34442 (Corner of North Florida Ave (US Hwy 41) and E. Norvell Bryant Hwy (486).
The pathway is smoothly paved and designed to be accessible to individuals of all abilities. To ensure a comfortable outdoor experience, we suggest that participants come prepared with water, snacks, and any essential items.
Withlacoochee State Trail—Hernando Trailhead offers a mostly shaded pathway that winds through the rich history of Citrus County. As you stroll along, keep an eye out for a diverse array of bird species, including the delightful Carolina Wrens and the industrious Downy Woodpeckers. Additionally, this trail provides the opportunity to encounter intriguing remnants of the county’s past, adding an extra layer of historical significance to your journey.
