The Tampa Bay History Center, in partnership with Florida A&M University’s Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station, invites the community to the fourth annual Florida Emancipation Day: A Family Reunion & FAMU Farm Fest.
On May 20, 1865, Union troops arrived in Tallahassee to announce that President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had freed those still enslaved in Florida. This year’s gathering honors that defining moment with a full day of programming that explores history, agriculture, and wellness.
Visitors can experience guided tours of the historic site, hands-on demonstrations, and live performances. The event also features an agricultural showcase, a health expo, and a variety of food vendors offering regional cuisine. Families are encouraged to take part in activities designed for all ages.
Held on the grounds of one of Florida’s most storied landmarks, Florida Emancipation Day brings together scholars, community leaders, and local organizations in an engaging, educational setting.
